Which sentence in the text best suggests that Robert and Andy have a strong relationship?
Beyond the Horizon
by Eugene OâNeill (excerpt)
In this opening scene, Robert is preparing for a journey at sea with his uncle. He dreams of leaving his family farm to seek adventure. His brother, Andrew, enjoys his life working on the family farm.
ANDREW: Well, the trip youâre leaving on tomorrow will keep you moving all right. (At this mention of the trip they both fall silent. There is a pause. Finally ANDREW goes on, awkwardly, attempting to speak casually) Uncle says youâll be gone three years.
ROBERT: About that, he figures.
ANDREW: (moodily) Thatâs a long time.
ROBERT: Not so long when you come to consider it. You know the Sunda sails around the Horn for Yokohama first, and thatâs a long voyage on a sailing ship; and if we go to any of the other places Uncle mentionsâIndia, or Australia, or South Africa, or South Americaâtheyâll be long voyages, too.
ANDREW: You can have all those foreign parts for all of me. (After a pause) Maâs going to miss you a lot, Rob.
ROBERT: Yesâand Iâll miss her.
ANDREW: And Pa ainât feeling none too happy to have you goâthough heâs been trying not to show it.
ROBERT: I can see how he feels.
ANDREW: And you can bet that Iâm not giving any cheers about it. (He puts one hand on the fence near ROBERT).
ROBERT: (putting one hand on top of ANDREWâS with a gesture almost of shyness) I know that, too, Andy.
ANDREW: Iâll miss you as much as anybody, I guess. You see, you and I ainât like most brothersâalways fighting and separated a lot of the time, while weâve always been togetherâjust the two of us. Itâs different with us. Thatâs why it hits so hard, I guess.
ROBERT: (with feeling) Itâs just as hard for me, Andyâbelieve that! I hate to leave you and the old folksâbutâI feel Iâve got to. Thereâs something calling meââ (He points to the horizon) Oh, I canât just explain it to you, Andy.
ANDREW: No need to, Rob. (Angry at himself) You want to goâthatâs all there is to it; and I wouldnât have you miss this chance for the world.
ROBERT: Itâs fine of you to feel that way, Andy.
ANDREW: Huh! Iâd be a terrible brother if I didnât, wouldnât I? When I know how you need this sea trip to make a new man of youâin the body, I meanâand give you your full health back.
